The Chicago-based carrier, which has its largest hub at O'Hare International Airport, managed to get 79.6 percent of its flights to the gate on time, while 80.1 percent of UA flights in November departed on time. United Airlines, the world's second largest carrier, did wind up fourth in on-time arrivals and departures in November, though it was a relatively close fourth. But it's still a work in progress, though what looks to be a much better work-in-progress with each passing month. Then, there's United Airlines (NYSE: UAL), which has in recent days reported stronger on-time performance. FlightView data indicates 80.8 percent of AA flights arrived on time in November, and 82.3 percent departed on time, putting AA second behind Delta in the on-time departures category. There can be little doubt that AA CEO Doug Parker is starting to mount a challenge in the on-time operations department to top-ranked Delta, even though American now operates an astounding 187,503 flights every month compared to 150,186 flights at Delta, the world's third-largest airline. Air no longer is broken out separately in the FlightView charts. Airways is now fully merged with American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL), the world's largest airline, and U.S. Airways from the FlightView on-time listings. A big change in the data for November comes with the exit of U.S. At Southwest, which had the second-best on-time arrival stats in November, 82.9 percent of its flights arrived on time, and but only 81.4 percent departed on time, putting it third among the four largest domestic carriers in that department. On-time arrivals and departures are flights that get to - or depart - the gate within 14 minutes of their scheduled times. Per FlightView, 85.5 percent of Delta flights arrived on-time in November, and an even more impressive 86.4 percent departed on time.
